Among Leonardo DaVinci’s most famous images is his drawing of the Vitruvian Man. The drawing is considered to be emblematic of Renaissance thought in its attempt to define ideal proportions by synthesizing human anatomy and architectural structure.

As Friz Quadrata draws its name from its primary designer and the Italian word for “square”, Da Vinci’s image of man inscribed within both a circle and a square seemed an appropriate reference to the face’s classical roots. Its authoritative look has made it a popular choice for both educational institutions, role-playing video games and crime drama titles.
